Compare

Compare puts two different measurements on the same frequency chart. Use it to connect output with the effort behind it, or to inspect electrical magnitude and phase together.
Shows
Two different quantities against the same frequency axis, each with its own vertical scale.
Healthy when
The pair answers a question, and you read each curve against its own units.
If it is not
Choose a useful pair under Left axis and Right axis, or start with Presets.

The tile#

Choose Left axis and Right axis in the tile’s settings. The left quantity is solid; the right is dashed. Each visible enclosure keeps its own colour. The horizontal axis remains frequency: this is not a scatter plot of one quantity against another.

Useful pairs#

PresetQuestion it answers
Excursion + Group DelayWhere do travel and delay rise together?
SPL + Amplifier LoadWhat electrical demand accompanies this output?
Impedance + Electrical PhaseWhere is impedance low, and what is its electrical phase?
SPL + ExcursionWhere does cone travel buy useful output?
Max SPL + Limit ExcursionHow much travel is used at the maximum-output ceiling?
Port Velocity + ExcursionWhere does the port take over from the cone?

For a vented box, Port Velocity + Excursion makes the handover near tuning easy to see: the cone’s travel dips while the port speed rises. For amplifier questions, Impedance + Electrical Phase keeps the two electrical quantities together.

Choose different quantities for the two axes. A quantity that does not exist for an enclosure, such as passive-radiator travel on a sealed box, has no meaningful curve. Do not interpret an absent line as a passing limit check.

What to try#

TryWhat it changes
Output and effortCompare SPL and excursion to find frequencies that cost travel for little sound.
Electrical loadCompare impedance and electrical phase to understand the changing load.

Using 00 Simulator, compare SPL and excursion in my visible designs over their intended working band. Identify frequencies where extra travel gives little output, and put the relevant response and limit tiles on screen.
