Baffle Layout

Use Baffle Layout to place the selected driver on a rectangular front panel. The dimensions and position feed the simulator’s smooth baffle-step correction.
Shows
The selected driver on a rectangular baffle, with the model’s baffle-step transition and correction.
Healthy when
Baffle dimensions and driver position match the intended cabinet, and the approximation fits your purpose.
If it is not
Enable baffle step, enter the dimensions and place the driver; then inspect SPL.

The tile#

  1. 1

    Enable the model

Switch on Enable baffle step. The layout and enclosure’s Simulate baffle step control refer to the same setting.
  2. 2

    Set the panel

Type Width and Height, or drag the edge and corner handles. Dimensions are shown in millimetres.
  3. 3

    Place the driver

Drag the driver or focus it and use the arrow keys. Shift makes larger moves. Center driver restores the centre position.

The readouts show the baffle dimensions, driver position, transition frequency and correction at the displayed reference frequency. Changing them changes the selected enclosure; it does not lay out several physical drivers or check cabinet bracing.

What changes in the response#

SPL with baffle step

dB

  • Baffle step off85 dB at 392 Hz
  • Baffle step on83 dB at 392 Hz
Sealed example at 1 W, half space, 1 m, with its default baffle-step geometry. Simulated when this page was built.

The default baffle for this driver is 300 × 450 mm. Its calculated transition is 364 Hz, with a 6 dB shelf depth. Wider effective baffles move the transition lower; offsetting the driver changes the effective edge distances.

What to try#

TryWhat it changes
Set the dimensionsType Width and Height, or drag the baffle’s resize handles.
Place the driverDrag the driver or use its arrow-key controls. Center driver puts it back in the middle.
Check the responseCompare the low-frequency shelf in SPL (dB). The model does not predict edge-diffraction ripple.
