Horn Segment Stuffing

Set fibrous fill material, filled segment length, and placement independently on each horn path segment.

Direct answer

Each horn segment can contain fibrous fill with a specified airflow resistivity, length fraction, and placement at the segment start or end.

What it measures

  • Airflow resistivity in Pa·s/m², using the measured value for the chosen material.
  • Filled length as a percentage of the segment length; the fill occupies the full cross-section over that length.
  • Placement at the start or end of the stored path segment.

Why it matters

  • Stuffing changes propagation loss and phase along the path, affecting resonances, pressure, and driver loading.
  • Independent segment settings allow targeted damping on main, rear, stub, and Paraflex paths.

How to read it in 00 Simulator

  • In the sidebar horn controls, choose Fibrous fill under a segment, then set resistivity, Filled length, and Fill from.
  • Choose None or set the filled length to 0% to use the unstuffed segment model.
  • Compare the SPL, electrical impedance, and horn diagnostic graphs before and after changing the fill.

What good, warning, and bad usually look like

Good
Measured material properties and a known fill position produce a useful reduction in unwanted resonances.
Warning
The result relies on extrapolated material behavior or a packing density that has not been measured.
Bad
A wall lining or loose partial cross-section fill is treated as the full-section material assumed by this model.

Common false conclusions

  • Filled length is not packing density, material mass, or percentage of the cross-section.
  • The empirical Miki equivalent-fluid model extrapolates outside f/σ = 0.01–1, with frequency in Hz and airflow resistivity in Pa·s/m². Validate that behavior against measurements.
  • This control is independent of chamber absorption and does not model every material or wall-lining arrangement.

App behavior notes

  • The material settings are stored on each segment and retained in project files and share links.
  • The same controls are available for the separate Paraflex diaphragm adapter.
