# Multiple-entry horn (MEH)

> How to model a multiple-entry horn (MEH) in 00 Simulator: extra drivers with their own power and EQ, entry positions, chambers and ports, diagnostics and Hornresp export.

Several independently amplified drivers share one horn: D1 at the throat and the others entering along the path. Each driver has its own power, EQ, polarity and delay, so the horn can cover a wider band than one driver could.

_Figure: The multiple-entry horn (meh) drawn by the simulator's schematic, with its chambers, paths and outputs._

The multiple-entry horn example, with a B&C 10PS26. Entry position of D2 and D3: 13 % · 15 cm. Drawn by the simulator when this page was built.

## How it connects

D1 drives the throat. Each further driver, D2 onward, joins the path at its own entry position through its own front chamber and, optionally, an entry port.

All the drivers share the horn’s acoustic load and its one mouth. Where their outputs arrive in step they add; where they do not, the top of the band falls away.

## When to use it

### Good for

- Wide-band horns where one driver cannot cover the whole range.
- Point-source designs that combine drivers in one mouth.

### Watch for

- Entries far from the throat pull the top of the band down. Keep the entry positions short compared with the wavelengths you want the drivers to share.
- Drivers, power and EQ are set in the **Drivers** panel, not in the horn controls.

## What you set

Set the enclosure type to **Horn**, then choose **MEH** under **Horn type**, in the enclosure panel or in the **Horn Editor**’s path bar.

### In the horn card

The horn card in the enclosure panel lists each path as a row: click one to open that path in the **Horn Editor**. The card also sets:

| Control | What it sets |
| --- | --- |
| **Throat chamber** | **Volume**, and its **Cross-section** under **Advanced**, for D1. |
| **Rear chamber** | **Volume**, for D1. It is sealed. |
| D2, D3 … | A row for each extra driver, with its badge and name. It shows the entry’s two chamber volumes and opens to set them. |
| **Front chamber** and **Rear chamber** | Inside a driver’s row: that entry’s own chambers. |
| **Entry port area** (cm²) and **Entry port length** (cm) | Under the row’s **Advanced**, beside the **Front cross-section**: an optional port between the entry’s front chamber and the horn. |
| **Driver, power and EQ for** D2… | Opens that driver in the **Drivers** panel. A horn takes up to eight drivers in total. |

### In the Horn Editor

The path itself is set on the **Horn Editor** tile. Drag it in the drawing, or switch the tile to **Table** to type each value:

| Control | What it sets |
| --- | --- |
| **Main horn** | The area at the throat, then up to eight spans. |
| D2, D3 … markers | Where each extra driver enters, in cm from the throat. |

D1 is fixed at the throat. D2 and later markers can be dragged, and clicking one selects that driver. [How the Horn Editor works](https://simulator.00aud.io/docs/horns/editor).

## What the entry position of d2 and d3 does

Only the entry position of the two extra drivers changes. The bass is the same for all three. Moving the entries from near the throat to a quarter of the way along cuts the top of the band steeply.

The multiple-entry horn example. Only the entry position of d2 and d3 changes between the lines. Simulated when this page was built.

Entry position of D2 and D3, SPL: B&C 10PS26, Half Space · 1.0 m · 50 W.

| Entry position of D2 and D3 | −3 dB |
| --- | --- |
| 6 % · 7 cm | 71 Hz |
| 13 % · 15 cm (the design drawn above) | 70 Hz |
| 25 % · 30 cm | 70 Hz |

## Diagnostics and stuffing

The one output is the Main mouth. Each entry with a front chamber cross-section or a port gets its own coupling path in the location list, named after the entry. [Reading the horn diagnostics](https://simulator.00aud.io/docs/horns/diagnostics).

Spans can be stuffed in the simulation, but the Hornresp export refuses stuffed MEH designs. [How stuffing works](https://simulator.00aud.io/docs/horns/stuffing).

## Folding and Hornresp

- **Folding:** Not yet. Folding does not handle multiple driver entries yet, so the **Fold into cabinet** button is disabled for multiple-entry horns.
- **Hornresp export · Throat record plus ME1 and ME2:** Two or three drivers in total, with entries at S2 and, for a third, S3. Amplifier delay, an entry port without a front chamber and stuffing are refused with a reason.
- **Checked against Hornresp:** 10 native Hornresp cases of this type are re-simulated in the regression tests. 10 of 10 agreement checks meet their tolerances.

> Using 00 Simulator, open my multiple-entry horn and try moving D2 and D3 to 10 %, 20 % and 30 % of the path without saving. Simulate each and show me SPL, then tell me how far out the entries can go before the top of the band falls away.
